The studio

The knife. The light. The face that emerges.

Rachel paints exclusively in oil, applied with the steel of a palette knife. No brushes touch the canvas. Pigment is laid in ridges, sometimes a finger of paint deep, until the soul of the subject rises out of the color, slowly, in light.

Her subjects are the great talmidei chachamim, luminaries and Chassidic masters: the Lubavitcher Rebbe, the Baba Sali, Maran Rav Ovadia Yosef, the Alter Rebbe, HaRav Kook. As a religiously observant woman, Rachel deeply reveres talmidei chachamim, and her appreciation of these giants is born of intense research, study and contemplation long before a knife ever touches the canvas. The painting begins in the seforim. The face arrives only once the soul has been understood.

Every canvas is an original, signed in oil by the artist and accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity. Editions are not produced. Reproductions are not sold. The work travels the world, by hand, to the homes and private collections that have asked for it, from Miami to Crown Heights, Jerusalem, London, Geneva and beyond.

Rachel paints from her studio in Johannesburg. Collectors meet her over WhatsApp video for private viewings of available canvases, and studio visits are welcomed by appointment.
