How it unfolds

Three movements, one canvas.

The Conversation

It begins with a conversation. Which tzaddik, which moment, which wall the painting will live on. Rachel listens for what the painting must hold before anything is sketched.

The Study

Rachel returns to the seforim and the photographs, studying the subject until the composition settles. You see the direction before the first stroke of oil is laid.

The Canvas

The painting is built knife stroke by knife stroke, in oil, over weeks. When it is complete it is signed, photographed for the archive, crated by hand, and delivered insured to your door.

Questions collectors ask

Does Rachel accept commissions?

Rachel accepts a small number of private commissions each year: single canvases or multi panel works for homes, shuls, and institutions. Sizes range from forty by fifty centimetres to wall scale, with optional gold and silver leaf. Each commission begins in the seforim, with study of the subject, before the knife touches the canvas. Write to Rachel to open the conversation.

Can I arrange a private viewing?

Yes. The studio in Johannesburg receives collectors by appointment. A private viewing allows you to stand before the work itself: the ridges of paint, the way light moves across the surface as you cross the room. Appointments are arranged directly with Rachel. Send a note with your dates and she will reply within one day.

Can I see a work before I decide?

Yes. Works can be viewed in person at the Johannesburg studio, by appointment. For collectors abroad, Rachel provides detailed photographs and video on request: the full canvas, the surface in raking light, the signature in oil. Nothing is hurried. Ask for whatever you need to be certain, and take the time the decision deserves.

How is a painting delivered?

Each painting is crated by hand and fully insured for the whole journey, then delivered to your door. Works have travelled to Miami, Crown Heights, Jerusalem, London, and Geneva. Express delivery typically arrives in under a week. Share your delivery address when you inquire and Rachel will confirm a precise quote for your destination.
