The Rebbe is caught inside the crush of a farbrengen, hat brim low, eyes lowered in deep concentration. An open palm rises at the left of the canvas, caught at the height of a clap; at the lower right a hand in warm yellow closes beside the red foam of a microphone. The beard is the painting’s white center, laid on in thick ropes of knife work, threaded with blue, violet, and pale yellow. Around it the gathering presses in: a second bearded figure at the left margin, another face surfacing from pigment at the right edge.
Everything else is blue. Ultramarine and deep navy fill the coats and hats, cut by ribbons of green and rose. Behind the dark brim the paint changes direction: vertical bands of white, pale blue, and citron climb the upper canvas like a niggun rising through the room. The face, worked in ochre, orange, and red, holds still at the center of all this motion, the quiet source of it. Painted in oil with the palette knife in 2025, the work remains with the artist; inquiries are welcome.
